Psychotherapy & Counselling

Supporting Children & Adults Creatively

How can I support you?

At times, life can feel like it is all too much - unexpected challenges, too many demands, and never enough time. In these moments, it is easy to feel lost or overwhelmed.

However, within us is a quiet space where we can reconnect, find strength, and support ourselves. As social beings, we are also empowered through connection - with others and within ourselves. While support can come from those close to us, there are times when they may not be available or able to provide what we truly need.

That's where I come in. Together, we will find the tools and support to help you regain balance and move forward with clarity.

I am here to be that support

About me

I have over 30 years of experience in the fields of therapy and education, and I am continually energised by the unique challenges and rewards these professions bring.

I have taught psychology and philosophy and led on a number of educational programmes. More recently my focus has been on supporting the continuing education of therapists and I have led on a post-qualifying diploma in working therapeutically with children and young people, something that has brought me much joy.

It is a privilege to work as a therapist, where I blend creativity and psychotherapeutic techniques to support both children and adults. A key aspect of my approach is using the medium of clay to foster expression and healing (see more below).

Additionally, I offer Clinical Supervision to those who are supporting others in their own therapeutic journeys.

I live in West Penwith in Cornwall, a place that touches my soul.

I have a base in Penzance that I use for face-to-face work but I am also fully accredited to engage online for both therapy and clinical supervision work.

My therapy training

My initial training as a psychodynamic counsellor, with its focus on unconscious thoughts and feelings, underpins my work. The addressing of past experiences allows for a greater understanding of how they may influence current behaviours and relationships, the desire being to increase insight and self-awareness to support the development of positive change and well-being.

I explore this with you

I am further informed by a range of ideas that I incorporate into my practice, in particular ideas from the fields of clay therapy, photography, and attachment theory. I have additional training in trauma and developmental theory, particularly creative techniques with trauma, and these techniques feature in my work. The therapeutic use of creative expression supports a holistic approach to my work, an approach designed to honour the unique being you are.

Clinical Supervision

Alongside my therapy work, I offer clinical supervision for counsellors and therapists and those working in the supportive professions. The collaborative space I provide allows supervisees a safe arena to explore concerns, hone their practise, develop their skills, and receive the restorative care needed to continue effectively in their work. The use of creativity within supervision is an important element for me and the use of clay and its power to inform supervision practise, was something I explored in my dissertation for my Masters qualification.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which supports my ethical, safe practice and ensures that I undertake continuous professional development. I hold an advanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) certificate and work with current professional indemnity insurance.

Clay Art

Working Creatively with Clay

I am a trained Clay Therapist, and this active psychotherapy provides a connection to the earth, to others, and to ourselves. Touch is the way that we first come to know the world and is central in our relationship to others and in how we come to understand ourselves.

The action of manipulating the clay, using our hands and fingers, facilitates a connection to the brain and supports connections within the brain which ultimately repairs and integrates our being.

It further supports us in regulating our emotions and provides us with a way to access our unconscious and to ultimately, transform and be transformed.

Suitable for all, it is particularly powerful when working with trauma, grief, felt shame, attachment issues, and sexual identity.

When working with clay it can feel as if one has the earth in one’s hands.

When words are not available, clay enables communication.
